-- links -- cookbook Monday, Oct. 01, 2001 @ 6:46 p.m. There I was. Returning my grocery cart to it's proper place at the foyer in front of the store, as I only sometimes do. I look up for some unknown reason. Perhaps the inner voice of a tormented creature was screaming out at a decibel that only my subconscious payed attention to. I looked up to see a Open faced light box placed about 12 feet up the wall with what looked like, ultraviolet lights mounted into it. There trapped in this psychedelic insect hell was one of the largest most vividly colored Monarch butterflies I have ever seen. Beating itself silly against the deceivingly pleasant, fuzzy blue light tubes. Thrashing itself in an all to eager manner. Unknowingly, or uncaringly because of the effects of the light, bludgeoning itself to death. It just seemed so pointless. Such a waste of innocence. The image of those beating wings refuses to still themselves in my brain. WE ALL FALL DOWN
