Ice Cream for breakfast, Break, The New Science, and Testing in Texas.
Thursday, Mar. 28, 2002 @ 6:22 a.m.

I'm having a pistachio cardamon milkshake for breakfast.

Is that wrong?

I think not!

***

4 glorious days are here.

No kids.

No school.

Just me, Mia, art, and taking stuff to goodwill.

***

I start teaching the pilot portion of the new science program this Tuesday!

YaY!

***

I drank Sumatran coffee this morning. I still love it's rustic earthiness, but Ethiopian has won over the love of my soul.

***

Testing time is here.

Texas makes me sick.

ITBS will take an entire week of instructional time.

Then two separate days for each of the following tests. Reading, Science, Social studies, and Math.

That's 2 and half weeks of instructional time down the tubes. Oh, AND the Texas Primary Reading Inventory has to be administered. That takes anywhere from 2 days to a week. Just depending.

And then there is the fact that we won't have our books the last week of school or so.

So, all totaled, I"ll be teaching only about 3 of these last 7 weeks of school.

Oh! And did I mention this is all a repeat of the start of the year? Yep, this happens twice a year hear in the glorious *cough* lone star state.

So, when you start hearing about how good the educational system is here in Texas. TEll them you know the truth.

Ready or not Starbucks, here I come!
