I made a safe place for a dove to die tonight. I don't know if it was diseased or injured or possibly a young juvenile not rallying to the call for the survival of the fittest. I tried getting the pitiful, gasping, thing to take water but not wanting to force it for fear of it aspirating on the liquid it ended up not taking any at all. At last I realized it was stressing the bird rather then comforting it to have me around. So I left it in its safe place to breathe it's last breath.
I'm horribly weak for not putting it out of it's misery, but I just don't have it in me, even though I can rationalize that it would have ended it's suffering.
