Larval Love
Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001 @ 12:18 p.m.

I had just gone to a baby shower for one of the women at my school. I stayed long enough for her to open our gift and then quietly scooted on out, as it was Friday, and truthfully school is the last place I wanted to be.

As I walked on out I saw this. [Yes click and go look then come right back.]

So it was love at first site.

Is that not the COOLEST caterpillar you have ever seen?

So, the race was on to identify this amazingly beautiful creature.

It absorbed most of my midday activities on Saturday. After a couple of hours of looking at various moth larva links from www.google.com I had found it! yeah!

But wait!-- look at what it becomes!

So anyway, needless to say I'm excited to see the kids reactions to this creature.

And it will be good, cause the Gulf Fritillary Larva we raised make chrysalis, like any butterfly larva does, and these guys will spin cocoons to pupate in. It will be good for the kids to note the differences.
