*whisper it to yourself* Cerulean Blue
Sunday, August 1, 2004 @ 1:16 p.m.

I'm becoming increasingly enthralled with Ultramarine Blue. It has this amazing versatility, not to mention that the pigment, unaltered, nearly vibrates with some primal, optical intensity. It also mixes with golden hues to make the most lovely browns and neutral darks. It's certifiably delicious, Rachel. ;) While I've been flirting with my affections for Ultramarine for quite some time, I've not been so generous with my whispered sweet nothings for other blues.

I've not harbored a love for Cerulean Blue, other then it's sensual nomine, rolling off my tongue in a most evocative way. Go on, whisper it to your self. /suhrooleeuhn/ "Mmm, Oh". I just had a split second day dream of a lover whispering "cerulean" in my ear. It does sound so lovely, I think. Forget French! Color is my language of love. My lack of admiration for Cerulean may have been initially led astray. You see, Cerulean is a rather expensive pigment, being a chemically derived pigment from Cobalt and all, consequently many paint suppliers substitute synthetics or a blend of other pigments that approximate true Cerulean. Most paint companies, not all. I was standing in front of a display of Golden Acrylics at Texas Art Supply the other day drooling over what to buy next. When my eye flitted over two rows of cerulean. Cerulean Blue, and Cerulean Blue hue. The hue being a designation for a blend of pigments approximating the true. Well, I opened the tube of the true Cerulean and my eyes beheld the most exciting, vibrant, electrifying blue I've ever seen. It seemed to shimmer with the same intensity as the ancient Egyptian blues I've see on tiny funerary statues at the museum of fine arts. Egyptian blue is a lost pigment, the process for it's synthesis having long been forgotten. This Golden brand Cerulean though, oh it's close! I can't wait to bathe a canvas in it.
