It's funny, I was sooooo ready to give up on teaching as a profession. This new job is really recharging my batteries though... the 9 o'clock start time, the small group of gifted children, the no morning duties, the one week pay check that was way more then I was expecting, the 30 minute breaks between the 3 science labs I run a day. 3? I was doing 6 a day, plus lunch duties, plus afternoon duties, plus 1 buttcrack of dawn duty a week at the old school. Sure I miss my friends there and principal Salsa Del Fuego, and Mrs. Fluff, Mademoiselle Noir ... they won't ever be replaced but the new people they're fun too! And there is such a spirit of helpfullness and if you don't know just ask and we'll get you through it. I miss the resources at the old school, but you know what, my Fridays are completely free, I'll snag this school a grant in the next couple of years I'm sure. They're a shoe in, severely economically disadvantaged population, plus continual growth on their accountability raitings make for easy grant writing. I'm pretty sure that's why they hired me. 160,000 dollar grant awardee is a pretty big gold star on a teacher's resume. Plus, they teach, I mean REALLY teach. No endless worksheets here prepairing the kids for the format of the standardized accountabilities test. In short, I'm loving it.
