I'm painting. I laid down at 9 last night to go to bed. My eyes flew open. I had direction. I got up and painted till after midnight. The Gary Ernest Smith book had awakened me. The 60 year old snap shots of my great-grandmother unceremoniously stacked on my nightstand suddenly ready to be painted. The synthesis of the two, the Smith solitary figures, these solitary glimpses of my mother's namesake visiting her birth place. 2 canvases are emerging. 30 by 30 inch. I had to sacrifice one of the zuzu mushroom paintings, keeping the best so far, but I HAD to get these paintings started. Patrick, my last painting instructor, recomended that we pick an Iconic image. An image that resonates with our very being and over the course of our painterly lifes repaint it, yearly, every couple of years, his point being just to come back to it. The idea has always vibrated pleasantly in my skull. He saw me thunbing through these snapshots one day and said that if he was me those would be his icons. I agreed but well that semester got derailed with my grandfathers death and the break up, and I went with less technically challenging images. Now they are coming forth. I'll post at somepoint. I can't write anymore, I have to go paint.

Hugs.
