I think you might enjoy Scott Peck's book, "People of The Lie." It's his attempt at defining a psychology of human evil. It's a quick, easy and fun (yes, I said FUN) read. He uses case studies from the micro to the macro to seek definition and example. You might enjoy its application in these uncertain times... - Zu

My pleasure - I think you will enjoy it. I first learned about it when Larry Kramer (playwrite/The Normal Heart, etc.) referred to it in a really compelling "Last Word" (the last page of the magazine "The Advocate") Another quote that lingers with me - now I can't remember who he attributed it to is "through out own action and inactions we only have ourselves to blame when our own genocide occurs." The piece was brilliant and about taking responsibility and acting in the face of adversity. The Peck book, in addition to attempting to define human evil, spends a good deal of time discussing how we need to take responsibility for these things - how it's not the "U.S. Government" that is committing these atrocities but as Americans, we're culpable and responsible - personally - and I got the sense that he said that unless and until we are able to see our responsibility we can never wholly atone for these evils and change a course. Well, I won't ruin it for you - I hope you read and I hope you like it! - Zuzu

I hope I didn't just add the same note a gazillion times... I posted a follow up comment here, but then Diaryland informed me I'm a spammer (!?!) because I posted it twice (!?!?) and it seemed to have deleted it.. so I put it on your note pages
