A wedge of light modulating from rose-gold to cognac.
Monday, Dec. 03, 2007 @ 7:06 a.m.

For some reason the house is inexcusably cold this morning. . . brr. It's so much easier to get out of a warm bed into a warm house.

I had one of my precious golden light days this weekend.

I was driving East on Lomas to get dog food at the pet store. The clouds were low, but not to low, dense and charcoal colored. A large break opened from the distant western horizon extending out over the valley. Suddenly the Sandia's began to glow, rose-gold light near the mountains crest modulating to a clearer cognac gold light on their extreme southern end. It was an amazing wedge of light floating above my head that caused the mountains to glow in such a magical way. The rest of the world was plunged into cobalt shadows. I parked and looked back to the west to see that the clouds there were the most lovely shades of ultramarine violet with shocking edges of flaming salmon. Even more spectacular was how this wedge of golden light didn't touch the earth The tree tops were literally gilded in this amazing golden light, maybe the top 18" of them and their lower parts the same shadowy colors as the rest of the landscape. Such a amazing natural phenomenon to behold. It was amazing to be standing there in the mist knowing that the beam of golden light was only 15-20 feet above my head. And then less then seven minutes after it all started the mountains sunk into the same shadows that engulfed the rest of the world. The magical refracted light was gone.
